Dryer Vent Cleaning in Connecticut

Every load of laundry sheds lint. The filter in the dryer catches most of it; what gets past accumulates in the duct running from the back of the machine to the outside wall. Over time that coating narrows the duct, and a narrowed duct means the dryer cannot exhaust properly.

Three consequences follow. Drying takes longer, because the moist air cannot leave. The machine runs hotter and works harder, which shortens its life. And lint is highly combustible, sitting in a duct carrying hot air — which is why restricted dryer vents are a recognized cause of house fires.

The build-up is worse where the duct is long, where it has bends, where it is flexible foil or plastic rather than rigid metal, and where the termination flap is partly blocked. Older houses frequently have all four.

The whole run, from the dryer connection to the outside termination — not just the accessible ends. Rotary brushes on flexible rods are worked through the duct with extraction at one end so the lint is collected rather than blown into the house.

The machine is pulled out to reach the connection behind it, which is where the heaviest build-up usually sits, and the transition hose between machine and wall is cleared or, where it is crushed or a fire-risk material, flagged.

The exterior termination is cleared and the flap checked, because a vent that cannot open is a blocked vent regardless of how clean the duct is. Airflow is checked at the end so there is an actual result rather than an assumption.
